Book Review: Bruchko by Bruce Olson

God put it within me to one day live in China. Prior to November 2006, I never thought of myself as the missionary type, but he gave me a heart for China (中國), and one of these days by his grace when I get organized financially and otherwise, I'll be leaving on a jet plane to see what the Lord wants me to do there. Sharing this information with some friends over dinner, they invited me to read Bruchko. I took some time to get there as I had other books in the queue. I read this book in two days. It was that good. Venture with me on an excursion into South American jungles and learn what gospel contextualization really looks like. Bruce Olson, Bruchko, as he is affectionately called by the savage Montilones, shows up with nothing and is able to share the gospel in an unbelievable way. I was gripped by the simplicity of Bruchko's faith and his reckless abandon to the Lord Jesus regardless of the consequences. A must read for all Christians about living out the great commission whether abroad or in their neighborhood, Bruchko takes the win for total dependence on God for provision and contextualizing the gospel in an ancient world.
